The Stammily 6 S’s For Immune Health And To Fight Covid!

Dr Stamm with a Healthy Living Dental Patient

You should be taking care of yourself so that you feel better and have more energy. It will enable you to be more efficient with your time and to find more joy in your work and family life! Here, Dr. Heather Stamm has created her “6 S’s” strategy for you to become healthier and protect yourself against external diseases!

1. “Scaling” — Now more than ever you need to decrease inflammation (bleeding gums) and active disease (cavities) in your mouth. The mouth is the gateway to health for the rest of your body. If your mouth is unhealthy it causes a huge stress to your body and specifically your immune system. Taking care of your body, including you mouth, is your BEST defense against COVID-19 and other viruses.

2. Sleep — You can’t be part of our “Stammily” for very long and not hear how important sleep is on a daily basis! It’s about quality over quantity. Mouth tape, utilizing blue light blocking glasses to reduce eye strain an hour before bed, consuming 400mg of magnesium supplement before bed (helps with stress as well), no strong Wi-Fi signals in your room (for example, turning your phone on airplane mode), any light from outside or inside (try a sleep mask!), and noise (earplugs if needed). We recommend 7-8 hours per night for everyone!

3. Sugar — Avoid processed sugarand simple carbohydrates! (see our video on youtube). Try to replace sugar in your diet with fruits. Citrus has added benefit of Vitamin C and different kinds of berries often have added antioxidants.

4. Stress — Try to find a daily practice that helps you relax — See Dr. Chrissy for great tips. I do yoga (Boho Beautiful is good and it’s free on youtube) and use the Calm App, which offers a variety of 10 minute guided meditations.  I also love a hot bath with Lavender and epsom bath salts, deep breathing exercises, and I personally like practicing Thankfulness in my gratitude journal before bed.

5. Supplements — Invest in your health! Dr. Stamm takes 12 different supplements in just one day!

  • A. The most important Vitamins are A/D/K2 eaten with a healthy fat meal (preferably in the morning). You should be aiming to get 20 minutes of sunlight without sunscreen a day at minimum for a healthy Vitamin D intake.
  • B. Acetyl-L — Carnitine and Quercetin have proven to boost bodily immunity. Lifevantage makes this supplement and you can buy it here or sign up for deliveries at home.
  • C. Probiotic — Lifevantage makes a supplement for this as well. Multi-Probiotic Sinus Support from Douglas Laboratories has specific strains for sinus and upper respiratory health that Dr. Chrissy can get at a reduced cost here. Also make sure to add fermented foods to your diet like Kim Chi or Kombucha to raise it up naturally as well.
  • D. Omega 3’s — An Omega 3 supplement is helpful for the brain and inflammation and has a positive impact on immune function. Also, eating fatty fish like wild Salmon (not farm-raised) will help. Find out where the fish is coming from, and see if you can get fish from a low toxicity source.

6. Sustenance Eat TheRainbow! Half of your daily consumption should consist of veggies. The more you can vary your diet the more nutrients you will gain. We can give you meal plan suggestions in a nutrition consult if you would like.
