Three Steps to a Fully Restored Smile

Step 1: Consultation, Examination, and Planning

We offer several ways to restore your smile. Partial dentures are an economical option that is held in place through suction or adhesives. Bridges are anchored on one or two healthy teeth which need to be filed down to accommodate the crowns. The best overall option—and the one we recommend the most—is dental implants. They offer a secure, lasting fit and don’t require us to alter any healthy teeth. We can determine if implants are the best solution for you during a free personalized consultation. This initial meeting will give us the opportunity to discuss your individual smile goals and conduct a thorough dental exam.

We’ll also capture detailed 3D images of your mouth with our low-radiation cone beam CT (CBCT) scanner. Key to the planning and placement process is guided implant placement technology. Using special software, we can actually complete your placement virtually ahead of time to ensure the most precise, predictable results. We also have customized surgical guides created for you that accelerate and simplify placement by showing us the exact position and angle of insertion for your dental implants. Once we have all the specifications we need, we’ll schedule your placement procedure!

Step 2: Implant Placement and Next-Day Restoration

Before we begin placement, we make sure you’re relaxed with our sedation options, which may include oral sedation and/or nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”). You’ll stay calm and pain-free throughout your procedure. If you need any teeth extractions or bone grafting we’ll complete those before proceeding with placement.

We start by fitting your surgical guide or guides over your gums. These have strategically placed holes that indicate where the implants should go. We insert the implants through these guides and into your jawbone, where they’ll stay for the rest of your life. We use implants of the highest quality from BioHorizons®, widely acknowledged as one of the top manufacturers in the industry. In most cases, we’re also able to attach your new tooth or bridge of teeth in the same appointment! With these you’ll have a fully functional smile for the entirety of your healing process.

Step 3: Final Restorations

Your gums and jawbone take four or more months to fully heal after implant placement. Your temporary restorations will allow you to eat and do anything you need to during that time. Healing is considered complete when your implants have fused with your jawbone. Once that happens, you can come back to our office to have your final restorations put in. This is a tremendous advantage in terms of convenience and continuity of care, because not all dentists both place and restore implants. Your final restorations will be made to match the shade of your existing teeth for a seamless look. With them in place, you’ll begin life anew with complete confidence and a healthy smile that will never hold you back!
