Using Essential Oils to Boost Dental Wellness

Herbs And Spices Hero Image

Our goal is to continue to find more natural ways to boost your dental and overall health! One cool idea we have been looking into is dipping / stringing floss with an essential oil blend before flossing to help combat bad bacteria. Studies are suggesting, adding just a drop of your favorite digestible EO or EO BLEND to your daily floss can reduce inflammation in the mouth. To try at home, grab a 10-12 inch piece of floss, and add EO drops to the tip of your index finger and thumb. Simply run your pinched fingers down the entire strand of floss. Then floss away!

You can also pre-soak the floss in your desired Essential Oil blend.

Key essential oils believed to benefit oral health include:
Clove, Tea Tree, Peppermint, Cinnamon, Spearmint, Oregano, and Myrrh.

*If you have a medical condition, check with your medical provider prior to ingesting any essential oils

FYI – when trying essential oils, it is best to use floss that is not coated in something that will make it more difficult to absorb the oils . We like dental tape or super floss. You can also buy floss that already contains oil, like desert essence floss with tea tree oil from your local natural food store. – Whitney Jackman RDH
